A landscaping estimate needs your business details and license number, the customer and job address, one line per task and material with quantity and price, the total, any deposit, what is excluded, and a place to approve. The template below is the generic contractor estimate pre-filled with a landscaping job so you can see what good looks like, plus the exclusions landscapers and lawn-care pros most often forget. Exclusions to put on every landscaping estimate
- Does not include controller, wiring or mainline repairs found during the work.
- Sod establishment depends on the customer's watering schedule; no warranty on sod after installation.
- Haul-away of removed material included only where listed.
- Plant material priced per plant at the nursery rate on the day of purchase.
Terms that fit landscaping work
Valid for 14 days. Materials billed as listed; quantities adjusted to actual at the rate shown. Balance due on completion by card, bank transfer or check.
What matters in landscaping estimates
- Quantities with units. Square feet of sod, linear feet of edging, yards of mulch. Units turn a guess into a number the customer can check.
- Say what happens if a quantity changes. "Adjusted to actual at the rate shown" lets you bill for 140 sq ft when the patch grows, without a new estimate.
- Irrigation finds more problems. A zone valve leads to a wire break leads to a controller. Exclude what you haven't seen.
- Plants are at the day's price. Nursery prices move. Quote per plant at the rate on the day you buy.
