How much does FreshBooks cost?
FreshBooks doesn't cap invoices. It caps clients, and the promo price ends after four months.
At regular prices FreshBooks is $23 a month for Lite (bill up to 5 clients), $43 for Plus (up to 50 clients) and $70 for Premium (unlimited clients). On the day we checked, all three were 80% off for the first 4 months. Team members are $11 a month each, and card payments start at 2.9% + 30¢. There's a free trial.

The client limit is the catch
Invoices are unlimited on every plan, but Lite lets you bill only 5 clients and Plus 50. FreshBooks counts active and archived clients, so a contractor with a new customer every week outgrows Lite in about a month and Plus within a year.
What the first year costs
With the promo, the first year is about $202 on Lite (4 months at $4.60, then 8 at $23), $378 on Plus, and $616 on Premium. After that it's $276, $516 or $840 a year.
Payment fees
FreshBooks' pricing page lists card payments "starting at 2.9% + $0.30" and 1% for US bank transfers, through FreshBooks Payments, which is powered by Stripe. Its help center says a first payout waits 7 business days.
The free alternative
