What stands out
- Price and caps go together. Invoice Simple's unhappy reviewers most often describe paying for a plan that now allows only a few invoices a month. Its pricing page lists 3 invoices a month on Essentials, with unlimited from Premium at $21.99 a month.
- Payment holds are a payments-app problem. Square Invoices processes payments itself, and nearly a fifth of its negative reviews mention money being held or slow to arrive. See why invoice apps hold your money.
- Bigger apps, more support complaints. Housecall Pro and Invoice2go draw the most mentions of support, and Invoice2go the most about billing and cancelling.
- Most users are happy. All six have well over 10,000 ratings averaging above 4.6. Written reviews skew negative because unhappy people write more.
How we did it
- Pulled the most recent written reviews for each app from Apple's public US customer review feed (up to 500 per app), on November 4, 2026.
- Kept reviews dated November 1, 2025 or later: 842 in total.
- For 1- and 2-star reviews, counted mentions of each theme with keyword matching, for example "hold", "funds", "payout" for money held, and "limit", "per month", "only 3" for limits. We spot-checked a sample of matches by hand.
- Took overall ratings from Apple's public app lookup on the same day.
Limits. Keyword matching misses complaints worded differently and can catch a word used another way, so treat the counts as approximate. Reviews are self-selected and US-only. Ratings change daily. Settle is one of the apps in this market and wrote this page; Settle isn't in the table because it doesn't have enough reviews yet.
