A handyman invoice and estimate app with no caps

Five small jobs, one clean estimate, paid before you leave.

Published October 27, 2026 · Updated November 4, 2026 · by Settle

Quick answer

Settle lets a handyman describe several small tasks out loud and get one clean, itemized estimate, then text it and get paid by card or bank to their own Stripe account. There is no cap on how many estimates or invoices you send, which matters when you do dozens of small jobs a month. It's free to send, and it's iPhone only.

What a handyman estimate looks like

In the living room you say: "Mount the TV on the bracket the customer already has. Patch two holes in the hallway drywall and touch up the paint. Swap the front-bedroom door handle, the customer picked a satin nickel one." Settle writes:

LineQtyPriceTotal
Mount TV on customer's wall bracket1$95.00$95.00
Patch drywall hole, prime and paint touch-up2$60.00$120.00
Labor: replace interior door handle set1$35.00$35.00
Door handle set, satin nickel1$28.00$28.00
Total before tax$278.00

Example prices only. Settle uses your own prices, and marks any it had to guess with an orange dot.

What matters in handyman estimates

  • One task per line. The customer can say "skip the door handle" without throwing the whole estimate out.
  • Hourly with a minimum, or a price per task. Pick one and show it. A visit minimum should be its own line.
  • Say who supplies what. "Customer-supplied bracket" and "customer-supplied paint" protect you if something doesn't fit.
  • Know your state's limits. Many states limit the size of job an unlicensed handyman can take, and the limit varies. Check your state licensing board.
  • Bundle small jobs. One estimate and one invoice for five tasks is easier for a customer to approve and pay than five separate ones.

Why caps hurt handymen most

A handyman can finish four small jobs in a day. An app that limits you to 3 or 5 invoices a month runs out by Tuesday. Some invoice apps price their cheaper plans exactly this way: Joist's Basics plan allows 5 documents a month and Invoice Simple's Essentials plan allows 3 invoices a month. Settle's free plan has no limit on how many estimates and invoices you send. See the full comparison, checked October 27, 2026.

How Settle handles handyman work

Describe the tasks, fix the orange-dotted prices, and text the estimate from your own phone. The customer taps Approve, you convert it to an invoice with one tap, and they pay by card, Apple Pay or bank transfer. The money goes to your Stripe account, not through Settle. It doesn't do scheduling or recurring billing, and it's iPhone only.

Handyman questions

What is the best free invoice app for a handyman?

Settle's free plan has no limit on estimates or invoices and includes sending by text, email and PDF, getting paid to your own Stripe account, and CSV export. Square Invoices also has a free plan. Many other apps cap how many invoices you can send.

Can I send a handyman estimate by text message?

Yes. Settle sends from your own phone, through Messages, Mail or WhatsApp, with a PDF attached and a link the customer can open.

Do I need a license to be a handyman?

It depends on your state and the size of the job. Many states set a dollar limit on work an unlicensed handyman can do. Check your state's contractor licensing board. This isn't legal advice.

Quote your next odd job by talking.
