FAQ
Settle: frequently asked questions
Short answers, in plain words. If yours isn't here, text Nina.
Settle is an iPhone app for solo contractors. You describe a job out loud, Settle writes a priced estimate using your own prices, you text it from your own phone, and your customer approves or pays from a link. Payments go straight to your own Stripe account, and Settle never holds your money.
The basics
What is Settle?
Settle is an iPhone app for solo contractors. You describe a job out loud, Settle writes a priced estimate using your own prices, you text it from your own phone, and your customer approves or pays from a link. Payments go straight to your own Stripe account, and Settle never holds your money.
Who is Settle for?
Solo contractors and one-person trades: plumbers, HVAC techs, electricians, handymen, painters, pool and lawn pros, and anyone who quotes a job on-site and wants to be paid without chasing the check. It is built for one person with a truck, not for a crew with a dispatcher.
How does the voice estimate work?
You tap the orange button and describe the job the way you would tell a buddy, for example "Swap the 40-gallon water heater in the garage, haul the old one, new flex lines and a pan." Settle writes a priced, line-by-line estimate in seconds. You fix anything that looks off, add the customer, and text it from your own phone.
Does Settle make up my prices?
No. Settle writes out the lines and the wording, and the numbers are yours: whatever you charged last time. If it has to guess a price, it puts an orange dot on that line so you check it. Once you send an estimate, those prices are remembered, so there is no catalog to build first.
Does Settle work without a signal?
You can write and edit an estimate or invoice with no signal, and every change saves the moment you make it. You need a connection to send it, and AI-written drafts need a connection too.
Money
Does Settle hold my money?
No. Your customer pays through a link and the payment goes to a Stripe account in your own name. Settle is never in the money path, so it can't hold, delay or freeze your payment. Stripe sets your payout schedule and runs its own identity checks, as it does for any business, so a new Stripe account usually waits several days for its first payout.
How does my customer pay?
They open the link you texted them and tap Pay. They can pay by card, Apple Pay or bank transfer, with no account to create. Their bank statement shows your business name.
What does Settle cost, and what are the payment fees?
Settle is free to send unlimited estimates and invoices. Settle Pro is $19.99 a month or $149.99 a year, with a 7-day free trial, and adds unlimited AI drafts. Card payments cost Stripe's standard 2.9% + 30¢, paid to Stripe. Settle adds nothing. Details on the pricing page.
Is there a limit on how many estimates or invoices I can send?
No. There is no cap on estimates, invoices or customers, on any plan. The free plan limits only the number of AI-written drafts, to 3.
Sending and records
Does Settle send text messages to my customers?
No. Settle never sends texts. Estimates and invoices go out from your own phone through Messages, Mail or WhatsApp, with a PDF attached and a link your customer can open. The only emails Settle sends are a receipt to your customer when they pay and a note to you when an invoice is paid.
Can my customer approve an estimate online?
Yes. They open the link, type their name and tap Approve. Settle records the name, date, time and device, and shows "Approved" next to the job in your app. One tap turns the approved estimate into an invoice.
Can I export my data?
Yes. Export everything to CSV from Settings, any time, on any plan. That button never goes away, even if you stop paying.
Does Settle connect to QuickBooks?
Not today. You can export your records to CSV and import them into your accounting tool.
Limits and company
Is there an Android app or a web version?
No. Settle is iPhone only (iOS 17 or later). There is no Android app and no web app.
Does Settle do scheduling, dispatching or time tracking?
No. Settle does estimates, invoices and payments. If you need scheduling and dispatch for a crew, tools like Jobber or Housecall Pro are built for that. See how the apps compare.
What languages does Settle support?
English only for now.
What happens to my data?
Your estimates, invoices and customers are stored on your phone. The job description you dictate is sent to an AI service to write the draft and is not stored afterward. Settle doesn't sell your data, doesn't use your estimates to train AI models, and doesn't show ads. Full details are on the privacy page.
