Why contractors look for a FreshBooks alternative
The cheaper plans cap how many clients you can bill
FreshBooks' pricing page says Lite lets you "send invoices to 5 clients" and Plus "send invoices to 50 clients", and its FAQ says the count includes archived clients. Unlimited clients start on Premium at $70 a month. Settle has no limit on estimates, invoices or customers, on any plan.

Long-time users say the price keeps going up
FreshBooks' regular prices are $23, $43 and $70 a month, and the promo on its pricing page lasts 4 months. Settle is free to send unlimited estimates and invoices, and Pro at $19.99 a month adds only AI-written drafts.
"They continually raise the prices with no meaningful improvements."FreshBooks reviewer, TrustpilotYour first payout waits 7 business days, and later ones can be paused
FreshBooks' help center says first payments have a mandatory 7-business-day delay that "cannot be waived under any circumstances", standard card payouts take 2 business days, and payouts can be paused for reviews or reserves. With Settle the payment goes to a Stripe account in your own name and Settle isn't in the money path. Stripe still sets payout timing and runs its own risk checks, so a new Stripe account also waits several days for a first payout.
"They hold the remittances for days."FreshBooks reviewer, TrustpilotWhen FreshBooks is the better choice
- You want real bookkeeping: double-entry reports, bank reconciliation and tax-time reports. Settle only exports CSV.
- You bill by the hour and want tracked time pulled straight onto invoices.
- Your accountant needs their own login. FreshBooks includes it on Plus and Premium.
- You work from Android or a desktop browser. Settle is iPhone only.
When Settle is not the right app
We would rather you know before you download:
- iPhone only. There is no Android app and no web app.
- No scheduling, dispatching, GPS or time tracking.
- No QuickBooks sync. You can export everything to CSV.
- One user per account. No crew or team logins.
- Documents live on your phone. There is no sync between devices yet.
- English only for now.
- A new app from a small team. Most of the apps it competes with have been around for years.
How to switch from FreshBooks
FreshBooks' help center says you cancel from Billing and Upgrade on the web, your account stays active until the end of the billing cycle, and your data is preserved after that, though accounts inactive for 30 days or more may be deactivated after an email notice. Invoices, clients and expenses export as CSV; estimates download as PDFs, and a CSV of estimates has to be requested from support.
There is nothing to import into Settle. Open the app, tap the orange button, and describe your next job. Your own prices are remembered from what you send, so your old price list doesn't need to come along.
