Quick answer

A flooring estimate needs your business details and license number, the customer and job address, one line per task and material with quantity and price, the total, any deposit, what is excluded, and a place to approve. The template below is the generic contractor estimate pre-filled with a flooring job so you can see what good looks like, plus the exclusions flooring installers most often forget. It's free, printable, and there's no sign-up.

Exclusions to put on every flooring estimate

  • Flooring material supplied by the customer; manufacturer warranty applies to material only.
  • Subfloor leveling or repair, if needed once the old floor is removed, is priced separately before work continues.
  • Customer moves furniture and appliances unless listed above.
  • Door trimming and baseboard replacement not included unless listed.

Terms that fit flooring work

Valid for 30 days. Deposit due on approval if listed; balance due on completion by card, bank transfer or check.

What matters in flooring estimates

  • Say who buys the flooring. Customer-supplied or contractor-supplied changes the price and the warranty.
  • Separate removal, install and trim. Customers compare install prices per square foot. Keep that number clean.
  • Plan for the subfloor. Write what happens if it needs work: you stop, show them, and price it.
  • Deposit within your state's cap. If you buy materials, a deposit covers them. Check the limit first.
